More I-Services
i-names are not a service from any one company, but an open standard for delivering any type of identity service from any service provider over any network. These i-services can come directly from your i-broker, or from any third-party service provider you choose.
Following are several major i-services currently under development. See also the I-Services Directory.
I-mail
I-mail is i-name-enabled emailemail that is fully compatible with existing email client and server software but that adds these long-awaited features:
- Automatic address updatingno more bounces due to changed email addresses. i-names manage email address changes automatically.
- Authenticated email—all i-mail messages are authenticated against the originating i-name, so there is no "spoofing" an i-mail address.
- Integrated reputation filteringbecause i-mail is 100% authenticated, the entire network operates as a reputation service. So even if a spammer gets an i-mail account, they won't be able to reach i-mail users unless they can earn a positive i-mail reputation.
- Standardized message identificationinstead of filling your inbox with multiple copies of the same message from different mailing lists or forwarders, i-mail delivers one copy and lets you see everyone who sent it.
- Message tagging servicesinstead of using only a subject line to identify the contents of a message, i-mail can use intelligent "tags" and "tag dictionaries" to identify multiple subjects, categories, or types of action to be taken.
I-share
I-share is i-name–enabled file and data sharing. The goal of i-share is to make it brain-dead simple for any two or more i-name users to share any type of datacalendars, files, photos, songs, bookmarks, or any other digital informationfrom any device.
- Point, click, shareall you need to know is the i-name of the other party.
- Works identically across all devices and platformswhether on a cell phone, laptop, desktop, or PDA, i-share works the same way everywhere.
- Strong security and privacyi-share uses industry-standard secure protocols, and i-share data is only available to authorized i-name recipients authenticated using i-name Single Sign-On. Plus i-share uses the same integrated i-name reputation service as i-mail and i-name contact service.
- Data tagging services—like i-mail messages, i-share data can use i-tags and i-tag dictionary services to make it easy for authorized users to search and find any i-share content, e.g., find all the files, pictures, songs, and/or videos pertaining to a specific event.
Identity Verification and Reputation Services
i-name Single Sign-On service is a simple, standard way to prove your online identity. But in some cases that's not enough. For some transactions (e.g., banking, insurance, jobs, memberships), individuals and businesses may need to prove other aspects of their real-world identity such as:
| Individuals | Businesses |
| Legal name | Legal name |
| Street address | Main office and branch offices |
| Age or age range | Date and place of incorporation |
| Schools and degrees | Trade associations |
| Employment history | DUNS number |
| Credit rating | Credit rating |
In addition, you may need to prove the reputation they have built in different online communities, e.g., eBay, Amazon, Yahoo, Slashdot, Match.com, LinkedIn, MySpace, etc. i-brokers and third-party service providers such as Opinity will offer services to verify these and other attributes of your real-world identity.
